Baja Fresh, Penny Drive, Games Night, & Silent Weekend Deadline

Hey Everyone!

We have some great events coming up this week, as well as the final day to sign-up for Silent Weekend!

Monday, February 23rd - Baja Fresh Fundraiser! This is at the Baja Fresh on Nordhoff and Reseda in the Vons parking lot. Pick up a flier from the Deaf Studies office and take it with you, and DSA will get 10%! It's from 11AM-9PM, and DSA members will be there all day, so go anytime or order for pick-up.

Tuesday, February 24th - Penny Drive. Jask (meaning Just Ask, a Deaf Awareness month during March) will be hosting a Penny Drive every Tuesday from 1-4:30 outside the Arbor Grill. Please come donate your pennies and other loose change to Jask! Each club will have their own penny section, and the club who collects the most gets a pizza party, so donate in DSA's name!

Tuesday, February 24th - Games Night!!! This will be in the Games Room (below the Fitness Center) from 8PM-12PM. DSA, DC, KS, LSP, and AST will be there. There will be a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox with lots of games, but you can also bring your own to play. There's also an arcade, pool tables, and ping pong tables. Miss Deaf CSUN Pageant

Hi Everyone! The Miss Deaf CSUN Pageant is this Friday, so here's all the information that Manako Yabe, the chair, has sent us!

"The 2009 Miss Deaf CSUN Pageant will take place this Friday, February 13, 2009 at 7:00PM in the USU Northridge Center. Thanks to a grant from Associated Students, the cost will be only $5.  There will be no pre-sales. Just bring $5 to the door, which open at 6:00PM. Children under 5 years old are free. Please bring your family and friends!

Due to the late re-opening of Pageant sign-ups, the Pageant will be simpler: Contestants will be evaluated on their Talent, Evening Gown, and Interviews (Private and On-Stage). In addition, we will have supplemental entertainment that is sure to please you. We are looking forward to a delightful evening with six contestants.

To view flyer information: http://www.csun.edu/ncod Click on Miss Deaf CSUN Pageant under News and Events (The Flyer says at Door will be open at 6:30PM, but we will open at 6:00PM!!)

If you have any questions, contact Pageant chair, Manako Yabe: manako.yabe.8@csun.edu or Pageant co-chair, Mardjon Salehibakhsh: mardjonsalehi@att.blackberry.net."

See you there!

SPRING MEETING and OPEN FORUM

Hey Everyone!

Keep checking back for DSA updates, but here are our events for the next two weeks!

OUR FIRST AND ONLY MEETING
We'll have one meeting this semester on Wednesday, February 4th at 7:30 in Lake View Terrace CD (second floor of the Fitness Center at the USU). We'll be discussing all of the events for this semester, play some games, and pass out an important survey (for more info, read the about the Open Forum below). We're only having one meeting to give more time for all the fun events we have planned for the rest of this semester. If you can't make it to the meeting, you can still check the DSA Bulletin Board right outside of the Deaf Studies office for information about our upcoming events. You can RSVP to this event here on Facebook!

OPEN FORUM
The DSA is about supporting students and their needs, so we've set up two Open Forums for all of you to discuss how the Deaf Studies Department can improve. Along with these forums, we'll be handing out a survey at our February 4th meeting and at the forums that you will be able to fill out and submit anonymously in the DSA drop box at the Deaf Studies office. The dates for the Open Forum are Monday, February 9th at 7:30 in the Flintridge Room (above the Fitness Center) and Wednesday, February 11th at 7:30 in Lake View Terrace CD (above the Fitness Center). You can RSVP to this event here on Facebook!

See you there!

DSA Reaches the End of Fall Semester

Hey Everyone!

We would just like to thank you all for being so involved in the DSA this semester. You've made every event worthwhile! A special thanks to those of you who came to our Bowling Night last Thursday. It was great to close the semester with you all :)

Make sure to get your Silent Weekend applications in by January 1st if you'd like to get the discounted price!

For anyone who was curious, Bethany won the Candy Guessing Contest and the whole box of candy! There were 210 candies in the box and she was the closest with a guess of 206! Yay for cavities galore!

That wraps up this semester! Good luck to all of you on your finals. We hope you have a good winter break, happy holidays, and a happy new year!

Sincerely,
The DSA Board

BOWLING NIGHT!

A quick reminder: Our last big meeting will be on Monday, November 24th, from 7:30-9:30PM in the Thousand Oaks room, which is above the clothing and food stores across the USU. We'll play some games and discuss future events.

And now for our big finale....BOWLING NIGHT!
Our big closing DSA event will be Bowling Night at Matador Bowl on Thursday, December 4th at 9:00PM. This event was huge at the start of the semester, so we thought it'd be a great idea to have it as our closing event. We know many of you have wanted to have another bowling event, so here it is! Tell all your friends! The bowling alley is located at 9118 Balboa Blvd. Northridge, CA 91325, at the Balboa and Nordhoff intersection. Hope to see you all there!

Happy Thanksgiving :-)
