Hey Everyone!

DSA Elections are coming up!

From Monday April 20th - Wednesday April 22nd, we will be having paper nominations in the Deaf Studies office. You can go in and fill out the nomination form to nominate you or a friend to be a candidate for the DSA 2009-2010 Board.

On Thursday, April 23rd, everyone who is nominated will be e-mailed and asked if they will like to run. Nominees will be able to accept or reject their nomination. If they choose to be candidates, they must reply to that e-mail by midnight on Friday, April 24th.

DSA Elections will be on Monday, April 27th from 7:30-9:30PM in the Flintridge Room. Candidates will prepare speeches and be prepared to answer questions from attendees. Only Deaf Studies students will be allowed to vote. There will be a vote, and whoever has the most votes will become the board member for that position.

Each candidate must fullfill the following requirements:
  • be a full-time student for the entire 2009-2010 academic year
  • be a Deaf Studies major
  • satisfy and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • be a current member in good standing with DSA
The positions for the 2009-2010 DSA Board are
  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Public Relations Coordinator
  • Events Coordinator
The following is a list of each position and duties that it entails. Keep in mind that the DSA Board works together and with a faculty advisor to create the best outcomes possible, meaning that many times these duties may overlap or change. Each board member should network with Deaf Studies students and students in other organizations to develop and expand DSA. It is the duty of EVERY board member to help create and maintain a positive morale and environment for the DSA board as a whole.

  • Runs weekly board meetings
  • Runs general meetings
  • Attends other organizations' weekly/monthly meetings
  • Assigns tasks for other board members
  • Follows-up with board members about fullfilling their duties
  • Networks with other clubs, organizations, staff, and students
  • Makes sure paper work is completed and signed
  • Coordinate Silent Weekend - Find a location, create applications, find presenters, and keep each board member updated on new information for the weekend and the role they need to take
  • Be the main supporter of the President and take over whenever the President is unable to do so
  • Handle all e-mails with DSA's contact list and check e-mail at least once a day
  • Write weekly e-mails about upcoming events
  • Update the DSA Newsletter on LiveJournal
  • Take notes at weekly board meetings and send them to board members
  • Create a list of things to do for board members
  • Type any other documents necessary in relation with scheduling in an organization fashion
  • Handle fundraising - contact restaurants and organizations to host fundraising events
  • Handle paperwork through the Matador Involvement Center and Associated Students for each fundraising activity
  • Handle bank accounts - maintain a copy of all financial paperwork and give an update on all accounts held by the Deaf Studies Association Deposit any necessary checks or money received by the club
  • Manage DSA's Facebook page and create events on it 
  • Make flyers and copies for distribution
  • Manage announcements made in classrooms
  • Make sure all information for events is correct
  • Communicate with other organizations to verify details for joint events
  • Promote events by word of mouth
  • Communicate with faculty and staff about upcoming events
  • Reserves rooms for meetings
  • Find locations for events
  • Has unique ideas and creates games for events
  • Prepares any food or decorations necessary for events
  • Is up-to-date with other organizations on campus and their events to make sure scheduling conflicts are avoided
The DSA Board is all about teamwork, compromising, staying positive, and keeping the best interests of the Deaf Studies Association in mind!
